Fitness Zone Indy is a program of John Boner Neighborhood Centers and is located in the Boner Fitness and Learning Center on the Arsenal Tech High School campus.

Boner Fitness & Learning Center History

Boner Fitness & Learning Center at the Chase Legacy Building has emerged as a comprehensive, community hub for youth, families, seniors, and neighborhood residents.

The Fitness Zone originated from the Near Eastside Quality of Life Plan, a working plan aimed to revitalize an entire neighborhood and was included in Indianapolis’ bid for the 2012 Super Bowl – and this community aspect helped to secure this monumental event. After Indianapolis was named as the host site, the National Football League donated $1 million towards the creation of a Youth Education Town (YET). Each site is unique in its operations, partners, and programming based on the mission and vision of the organization.

The local community capitalized upon this opportunity, and raised an additional $10 million to build upon the YET, and create the Boner Fitness & Learning Center at the Chase Legacy Building which opened on February 7, 2012 in conjunction with Super Bowl XLVI. The facility is an asset to the neighborhood and features a greenhouse, garden, instructional kitchen, and art studio in addition to the Fitness Zone Indy.

Boner Fitness & Learning Center Goals

Provide comprehensive programming to the Near Eastside community that will improve the quality of life for residents of all ages, backgrounds, and circumstances.

Provide targeted educational programs that will enable students to achieve academic success.

Enable the Arsenal Technical High School campus to be a comprehensive “community school” in Indiana.

John Boner Neighborhood Centers is a social services and community development organization serving residents living on the Near Eastside. Through programs, services, and community development initiatives, JBNC staff help to inspire and support those who are committed to thriving towards an improved quality of life: Not just for themselves, but for the community they live in.

The Fitness Zone is one of those services and the community-based fitness center aligns with their mission of inspiring neighbors and partners to improve the quality of life on the Near Eastside by providing tools for change and growth.
